The Library at Caulfield Grammar’s Shelford Campus has been thoughtfully reimagined as a warm, engaging environment that supports moments of curiosity, calm and focused learning.

Natural oak joinery forms the foundation of the design, bringing a soft, timeless warmth across the space. Key architectural elements — including the arched reading nook, built‑in circular seating and an integrated sofa — create inviting zones that encourage both individual reflection and shared learning.

The arched reading nook features an acoustic‑lined interior in Autex Composition Muralla, offering a cocooned, sound‑softened retreat for students. The built‑in seat within the nook is upholstered in Warwick Manisa Atlantic, enhancing comfort while reinforcing the library’s calming palette. The built‑in sofa combines Warwick Manisa Caramel with a contrasting Atlantic backing to introduce a subtle yet vibrant accent. Circular in‑shelf seating finished in Warwick Manisa Vapour completes the layered palette, creating a cohesive and balanced aesthetic throughout.

At the heart of the entry, a sculptural reception desk clad in Laminex is paired with a striking full‑height shelving display. This combination forms a strong visual anchor while providing practical storage for books, displays and learning resources. The soft curves of the shelving echo the broader design language, reinforcing a sense of flow and cohesion across the space.

Overhead, cloud‑shaped Autex Cubed acoustic panels in Opera and Pavilion appear to drift across the ceiling, introducing a playful element while significantly enhancing acoustic comfort. Warm white accent lighting — installed above the panels and set on a dimmer — allows the space to adapt to different moods, creating both functionality and a distinctive visual feature.

Every detail — from the flowing joinery to the layered upholstery and acoustic treatments — has been carefully considered to create a calm, inspiring environment where students can explore, learn and feel at ease.
